Hyla squirella

This species is sometimes called the rain frog because it is commonly heard before and after summer showers. An efficient predator, it can frequently be seen catching insects around patio lights. During the day it hides under roof flashing or in garden shrubs; sometimes dozens are found huddled together.
Look For : A variably marked, common treefrog. May be green to brown, plain or with spots, and with or without a white stripe along its lower lip and side of body. Calls include a nasal trill and grating quack.
Length : 1-1 1/2".
Habitat : Moist areas with trees; suburban homes.
Range : Southeastern Virginia to Texas, mostly on coastal plain.
