Hyla versicolor

There are actually two gray treefrogs -- the Gray Treefrog and the Cope's Gray Treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis). They look so much alike that only an expert can tell them apart -- and then only by their calls! In spring and summer, listen for their sweet nighttime trills coming from bushes and trees. Sometimes these and other treefrogs come to windows and lights searching for insects to eat.
Look For : A warty, brown to green to gray treefrog, with a dark-edged light spot below each eye and usually a few dark blotches on its back. Calls of both species are trills; Cope's is faster.
Length : 1 1/4-2 1/4".
Habitat : Woodland shrubs and trees near water.
Range : Eastern U.S. and southernmost Canada.
