Rana sylvatica

Found north of the Arctic Circle, this is the northernmost amphibian in North America. Even before the last ice is melted from the edges of small ponds and pools in spring, Wood Frogs are quacking out their ducklike calls. Outside the breeding season, these masked frogs will wander far from water.
Look For : A light to dark brown frog with a dark mask and a light line on its upper lip. Call is a series of quacking notes.
Length : 1 1/2-3 1/4".
Habitat : Woods in East, tundra (treeless plains) in North, grasslands in West.
Range : Canada, Alaska, and south into eastern and northern U.S.
