Rana sphenocephala (Rana utricularia)

Leopard frogs, including the widespread Southern Leopard Frog, are very good leapers and not easy to catch, but that doesn't stop people from trying. Many of these frogs are caught by fishermen, who use them as bait. They like wet, grassy areas and can be very common if conditions are right.
Look For : The most common big southeastern frog. Brown or green with numerous dark spots and distinct ridges on its back, and a white spot on its eardrum. Call is a series of chuckling croaks.
Length : 2-3 1/2".
Habitat : Vegetation in and around any freshwater environment.
Range : Southeastern U.S.
