Ambystoma macrodactylum

Usually seen under logs or debris near pools, this salamander sometimes shares breeding sites with the Northwestern Salamander. The Long-toed Salamander prefers cooler, cleaner water; its eggs do not do well in water with even moderate algae growth.
Look For : A black salamander with long toes and a green to yellowish, solid or splotchy stripe on its back.
Length : 4-6".
Habitat : Extremely varied, from sagelands to mountain lakes and alpine meadows.
Range : Southeastern Alaska and south to northwestern U.S.
