Plethodon glutinosus

Think twice before you reach out to pick up a Northern Slimy Salamander. The "slime" that gives them their common name is actually more like glue than slime. You will be lucky to get it off your hands after a few days of hand-washing.
Look For : A large, shiny black salamander with white to creamy spots (largest on its sides) scattered over its upperparts; dark below. Its skin is very sticky.
Length : 4 1/2-8".
Habitat : Moist woodland hillsides and other woodland sites.
Range : Mid-Atlantic and southeastern U.S.
