Batrachoseps attenuatus

The rotting logs and ground litter in the great Redwood forests hide some wonderful animals. The California Slender Salamander is one of these creatures. It does not really like to be disturbed in its daytime hiding spot and will flip about crazily when it is uncovered.
Look For : A very slender, long-tailed salamander with short, skinny legs; the body is dark and the back has a red to yellowish stripe; each foot has 4 toes.
Length : 3-5".
Habitat : Mountain and foothill woodlands; also grasslands.
Range : California and southwestern Oregon.
