Hydromantes platycephalus

The web-toed salamanders are found only in California, where their broad feet help them climb over rock slabs and cliffs. Both Mount Lyell and Limestone Salamanders use their muscular, blunt tails as props and brakes to help them in their rock-climbing.
Look For : A flattened, web-footed salamander with a short tail; body is color and pattern of granite.
Length : 2 1/2-4 1/2".
Habitat : North-facing, granite mountain slopes.
Range : Sierra Nevada mountains in California.
