Poecile atricapilla

The worst winter weather does not bother the nimble chickadee as long as it has food to keep it warm beneath its fluffy, insulating feathers. The chickadee battles the cold by eating lots of seeds and berries, though its diet also includes insects and insect eggs. Young chickadees are as agile as their parents once out of the nest, just over two weeks after hatching.
