Sitta canadensis

The Red-breasted Nuthatch descends tree trunks headfirst, searching for seeds and small insects. It is smaller than the White-breasted Nuthatch.
Look For : A small bird, blue-gray above, reddish below, with a bold white eyebrow stripe and a black line through the eye. It has a white face and chin and a black cap (in the female, cap is gray).
Length : 4 1/2".
Habitat : Forests; suburbs in winter and migration.
Range : Most of Canada and U.S.
