Piranga ludoviciana

In late spring and early summer the Western Tanager feeds on insects from high in the tree canopy. Later it feeds on berries and other small fruits. This lovely bird was recorded on the Lewis and Clark expedition (1803-1806).
Look For : Bright red head, yellow body, black wings and tail.
Length : 6-7".
Habitat : Open forests.
Range : Alaskan panhandle to Mexico.
