Agelaius phoeniceus

The Red-winged Blackbird is a marsh bird that has had a population explosion in recent years and can now be found nesting in fields, brushy places, and at woodland edges. They collect in enormous flocks in the fall, descending on cornfields like clouds of locusts.
Look For : The male is glossy black with red shoulder patches bordered by yellow. The female and juveniles are brown with streaks.
Length : 7-9 1/2".
Habitat : Marshes, swamps, fields.
Range : Southeastern Alaska and across Canada (mostly in summer) and south throughout U.S.
