Lepomis gibbosus

The Pumpkinseed is not sought by most experienced anglers, but is often caught by beginners. It is aggressive and will take a variety of bait. It is named for its body shape, which is like that of a pumpkin seed.
Look For : A heavy-bodied sunfish with white edge and red spot on gill flap.
Length : 16".
Habitat : Lakes, ponds, slower parts of streams.
Range : Great Lakes drainages, upper Mississippi River, and northern Atlantic coast.
