Isurus oxyrinchus

The fast-swimming Shortfin Mako (and its relative the Longfin Mako) is in the same family as the Great White Shark. It is a favorite of game fishermen, and often jumps out of the water when hooked. Both the makos are often served in restaurants. A voracious predator, the Shortfin feeds on fishes but rarely on marine mammals. Although it is seldom reported to attack humans, this shark is regarded as dangerous. Hooked makos have been known to attack boats.
