Sphyrna lewini

Hammerheads look like other sharks except for their bizarrely widened heads. There are a number of different species, all of which can be identified by slight differences in their head shape. The Scalloped Hammerhead sometimes travels in large schools. It feeds on squid, octopus, lobster, and crab.
Look For : A large shark with the front of its head arched and widened; eye at either end. Front margin of head notched, not smooth.
Length : 14'.
Habitat : In oceans near surface, both near shore and offshore.
Range : From New Jersey southward, including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
