Lophius americanus

Goosefishes have an enormous capacity for food and eat almost any kind of fish, various species of birds (they have been reported to eat geese!), turtles, and invertebrates. They apparently can swallow fishes that are equal to their own weight.
Look For : A depressed, brown fish with a huge mouth and long, pointed teeth. "Lure" on first dorsal spine attracts prey.
Length : 4'.
Habitat : Coastal shores to depths of 2,000'.
Range : Gulf of St. Lawrence to Florida.
