Squalus acanthias

The dogfish family includes some of the smallest sharks in the world. Although dogfishes are frequently eaten in Europe, they have never caught on as food fish in North America. This species may be the world's most abundant shark.
Look For : A small shark with a strong, hard spine before each dorsal fin. No anal fin. Gray with white spots; lighter below.
Length : 4'.
Habitat : Cold coastal waters.
Range : Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
