Salmo trutta

The Brown Trout is native to Europe and western Asia. It was introduced into lakes and streams in the United States 100 years ago and is currently one of the most widespread fishes of the trout and salmon family. This fish can live in higher water temperatures than the other salmons and trouts. It is difficult to catch, and is not as tasty as some of the other trouts.
Look For : A pale olive-brown, elongate trout with large, dark spots. Usually no spots on upper half of tail. Introduced from Europe.
Length : 3' 4".
Habitat : Colder streams and lakes.
Range : Widely introduced throughout North America.
