Octopus vulgaris

This octopus is secretive, hiding during the day in crevices and caves and under rocks. Small specimens may be found above the low-tide line.
Look For : Body smooth, usually white marked with green, but changes with background to pink, brown, or gray. 8 thick arms with suckers. Head broad with 2 high eyes; tough, parrot-like beak.
Length : To 10' (including arms).
Habitat : Among rocks and coral reefs near shore; near low-tide line and below in shallow water.
Range : Connecticut to Florida and Texas; Mexico; West Indies.
