Hylephila phyleus

The Fiery Skipper is a grass feeder, so it thrives in cities with lawns and parks. The larvae feed at the bottom of the plants, where they are safe from lawn mowers. This species lives in the southern states all year and spreads into the north during the spring and summer months.
Look For : Yellowish-orange to brown on wings; pale orange with black dots below.
Length : 1 1/4".
Habitat : Lawns, parks, fields.
Range : Widespread.
