Rhynchites bicolor

Rose Weevils use their long snouts to drill holes into rose buds; the larvae grow up inside the plant where they feed on the developing fruit or the stem. They continue to feed and grow inside the plant for two years. They pupate in the soil and emerge late in the spring. Weevils are the largest family of beetles in the world.
Look For : A mostly red weevil with a long, thick, black beak.
Length : 1/4".
Habitat : Fields and gardens with bushes of rose, blackberry, and raspberry.
Range : Widespread.
