Apiomerus species

This insect pounces on Honey Bees and other insects. It holds the captive in its powerful legs, thrusts its sharp beak into the victim's back, injects it with a substance that keeps it from moving, then sucks out the body juices. The sharp beak is folded into a groove under the head when not in use.
Look For : A red bug with black-brown markings or a brown bug with yellow marks; attacks bees and other insects.
Length : 5/8".
Habitat : Meadows, gardens.
Range : Widespread; mostly in West.
