Vulpes macrotis

The Kit Fox can run as fast as 25 miles per hour for short distances, and is sometimes called the Swift Fox. Living alone and coming out mainly at night, the Kit Fox eats rabbits, ground squirrels, rats and mice, birds, insects, grasses, and berries; in winter, it stores food under snow. The young are born in a chamber 3 feet underground. The calls of the Kit Fox include a shrill yap, and several whines, growls, and purrs.
Look For : A small fox similar to the Gray Fox but paler and less red with larger ears and white legs.
Length : Body 15-19" long.
Habitat : Prairies, deserts, and sagebrush.
Range : South-central Canada and western and central U.S.
