Peromyscus maniculatus

This common mouse with big sparkling eyes lives in many habitats and comes in many colors. The Deer Mouse eats seeds, nuts, fruits, insects, and fungi. It often lives in trees and old bird nests. In the fall, it may come into houses, but it does not cause as many problems as the House Mouse. As with all mice, many predators feed on it.
Look For : A gray to reddish-brown mouse with a white belly and a very long tail.
Length : Body 3-4" long, tail 2-5" long; about 1 oz.
Habitat : Woodlands, fields, grasslands, and prairies.
Range : In West, northern Canada to Mexico; in East, Hudson Bay south to northern states and south into Arkansas and eastern Texas.
