Pipistrellus subflavus

Emerging early from its daytime hiding place in a building or hollow tree, the Eastern Pipistrelle feeds on tiny insects, especially leafhoppers, plant hoppers, beetles, and flies. Mothers and young form small colonies of 30 to 35 bats. In fall, pipistrelles migrate to a small mine or cave to hibernate. The similar Western Pipistrelle, the smallest bat in the U.S., is found in the West from Washington to Texas.
Look For : A very small, light brown bat.
Length : Body about 2" long.
Habitat : Eastern forests.
Range : Eastern U.S. and parts of Midwest and Southwest.
