Uta stansburiana

The Common Side-blotched Lizard is one of the most commonly seen lizards in its dry western habitats. It lives on the ground and seldom climbs very high. After basking in the sun, these lizards dine on insects and spiders, all the while trying to keep an eye out for predatory lizards, snakes, and birds that might eat them.
Look For : A small brownish lizard with a black spot behind its front leg and a fold of skin across its throat.
Length : 4-6".
Habitat : Dry rocky areas, sandy washes, dry grasslands, deserts.
Range : Central Washington south through much of Southwest to western Texas and Mexico; Pacific coast from central California to Baja California.
