Crotalus adamanteus

Stump holes, Gopher Tortoise burrows, and dense patches of saw palmetto often serve as retreats for this dangerous snake. A large rattlesnake with long fangs and big venom glands, it can deliver a huge amount of venom deep into its victims. Its numbers have been substantially reduced by extensive land development and by rattlesnake hunters. It eats rabbits, squirrels, and birds.
Look For : A large rattler with diamond-shaped blotches outlined by yellow scales. Two diagonal yellow stripes on face.
Length : 33-96".
Habitat : Sandhills, pine flatwoods, palmetto thickets, Gopher Tortoise burrows.
Range : Southeastern U.S.
