Phrynosoma cornutum

Like all horned lizards, this species is extremely difficult to see against a background of small rocks and soil. Sometimes one can be right in front of you, but unless it moves you don't notice it. This is one of the fastest of the horned lizards; it usually seeks shelter in a burrow or under a bush when approached. These lizards specialize in eating ants, but they will feed on a variety of other insects when they are available.
