Brown Anole

Anolis sagrei

This relative of our native Green Anole is from the islands of the Caribbean. It has become established in most of Florida and in a few Texas locations. The Brown Anole is more of a ground dweller than the Green, and it usually escapes by running on the ground, even if it is perched at the base of a tree trunk. Green Anoles can change their skin color to brown, but Brown Anoles can't change to green.

Look For : An anole with brown skin and white-fringed, orange-red throat fan.

Length : 5-8".

Habitat : Common around buildings and trash heaps.

Range : Introduced to Florida and southern Texas.
