Sceloporus occidentalis

This is the common "blue-bellied" lizard of the western states. It is found in a variety of habitats including suburban neighborhoods. Both males and females may have blue on the throat and the sides of the belly, but males have deeper coloration, especially during the spring and early summer. Males perform certain behaviors when they are courting females or defending their territory from other males. These include jerky pushups and head-bobbing.
Look For : A spiny lizard with yellow or orange on rear of legs; males have blue on middle of throat and sides of belly.
Length : 6-9".
Habitat : Grasslands, open forests, farms.
Range : Far western U.S.
