Rhinocheilus lecontei

Long-nosed Snakes are excellent burrowers in loose, sandy soils, yet they prefer to hide under surface debris or in rodent burrows during the day. They appear to be most active in the early evening. These snakes kill lizards, other snakes, and small mammals by constriction.
Look For : A tricolor snake with black saddles outlined with white spots on the sides, often alternating with red bands. White to yellow belly with a few dark spots. Long, pointed snout.
Length : 22-41".
Habitat : Prairies, brushlands, deserts.
Range : Southwestern U.S. from central California to central Texas.
