Bubo virginianus

A large, powerful, and aggressive bird, the Great Horned Owl's menu extends from insects, frogs, and mice to rabbits and skunks, as well as other birds. This "tiger of the woods" even eats porcupines and house cats.
Look For : Has fluffy ear tufts spaced wide apart and yellow eyes. Body varies in color from pale gray in the Arctic to dark brown. Underparts are speckled and streaked. Throat is white. The facial mask, a rusty brown, is ringed in black.
Length : 18-25".
Habitat : Woods, parks, suburbs.
Range : Most of Canada and U.S.
