Ambystoma tigrinum

Tiger Salamanders are often seen at night after heavy rains, especially during breeding season. They live beneath debris near water or in crayfish or mammal burrows. They are voracious consumers of earthworms, large insects, small mice, and amphibians.
Look For : A very large, big-headed salamander with highly variable color patterns; often dark with bold whitish to yellow markings.
Length : 6-12".
Habitat : Extremely varied, from forests to grasslands.
Range : Widespread in interior U.S.
