Calemys insculpta (Clemmys insculpta)

The Wood Turtle is well named, as it can usually be found in shady forests with a stream nearby. It spends the winter buried in mud in shallow water and remains near water during the early spring. During the summer it wanders through forests and fields to feed on berries and bugs. Wood Turtles have been known to perform a rhythmic "stomping" behavior, which sends vibrations into the ground. These vibrations lure earthworms to the surface, where the turtle eats them.
