Rana pipiens

The Northern Leopard Frog is sometimes called the meadow frog because it is often found in clearings far from water. This species is primarily nocturnal (active at night). When pursued on land, it flees with zigzag leaps until it reaches the security of water. Leopard frogs were once collected by the thousands because they were used in biology labs as dissection subjects. Now they are becoming scarce in many places where they were once common.
