Question: What is the structure of a shark's body made of?
Answer : After swimming my way through our fantastic Kids!
Sharks category, I found a strange and mysterious ThinkQuest site called
The Truth About the Monsters of the Deep. I found a chapter titled "Structure," so I clicked on it right away. As it turns out, sharks have skeletons made up of a tough, elastic substance called cartilage. In other words, they have boneless skeletons! Cartilage is lighter than bone, so it helps keep the shark from sinking to the bottom, since it doesn't have a gas-filled swim bladder like most fish. But sharks still have to keep swimming at all times so they don't sink! Cartilage is also more flexible than bone, so a shark can zip around quickly.
