Question: Who attended the first Thanksgiving?
Answer : Our big ol'
Thanksgiving category has all kinds of neat sites regarding the first Turkey Day, including a great page from the
American Embassy in Sweden. When the first pilgrims landed in Massachusetts in 1620, they experienced a disastrous winter. The weather was harsh, they had very little food, and eventually half of them died. The next spring, the nearby Iroquois Indians taught the pilgrims how to plant corn, hunt, and fish. In the autumn of 1621, the pilgrims invited the Native Americans to celebrate their harvest. They ate corn, turkey, cranberries, barley, pumpkins, beans, squash, and even popcorn! So the first Thanksgiving in the autumn of 1621 was attended by grateful Pilgrims and knowledgeable Native Americans.
