Scientists know more about how this small dinosaur looked than how it lived. Leptoceratops had a long, slender body. It had short forelimbs, and may have spent most of its time walking or standing on its hind legs. It is considered to be one of the more primitive ceratopsians , lacking the large frills and horns common to its relatives.

Most of the Leptoceratops remains were found in North America, and are dated from the last age of the Cretaceous. The shocking discovery of a nearly perfect ulna in Australia, dating from the first part of the Cretaceous, gives us a picture of a simple creature that lived all over the globe. It was also apparently very successful as it survived almost 50 million years, despite the presence of some of the most ferocious predators of all time.
