Harpymimus was an example of the ornithomimosaur family - small, fast dinosaurs with keen senses. Harpymimus is known from a few poorly preserved parts. It was a relatively early member its family, still retaining some cone-shaped teeth in its lower jaw.
Harpymimus lived in what is now Central Asia, and it was apparently one of the first members of ornithomimosaur family. Harpymimus was named after the Harpy, a creature from ancient Greek mythology. The Harpy was purported to be a monster with the head of a woman and the body of a giant bird.
