ArchaeOrnithomimus may be the oldest known member of the ornithomimid family of dinosaurs. Like its relative, Gallimimus, it was a very fast meat-eater with a small head that probably ate lizards, small mammals, and large insects.
Somewhat smaller than later ornithomimids, ArchaeOrnithomimus was also more lightly built. Some scientists believe that the fossil material is not complete enough to accurately assign this creature to any genus or family and that more material needs to be found for a definite assignment.
