Andesaurus was a real giant among the long-necked (sauropod) dinosaurs who evolved in South America during the Cretaceous.
This giant plant eater is from the same family (titanosaur), as Argentinosaurus It weighed as much as 16 big elephants! Unfortunately, not enough of this dinosaur has been found to know exactly how big it was or what it really looked like. The only thing that scientists know for sure is that it was really huge.
The discovery of only partial Andesaurus remains has made it difficult to classify this enormous beast. It lived at about the same time as Argentinosaurus but there appears to be enough differentiation to warrant the establishment of its own genus.
