Antarctosaurus is one of the largest of the South American long-necked dinosaurs. It also is one of the last of the giant titanosaurs. Some of the fossil bones of this dinosaur led scientists to believe that it could have grown as big as 130 feet (40 m) long! This family also includes Argentinosaurus another South American giant. This dinosaur seemed to travel around the world, as fossils of Antarctosaurus have been found in India and Africa. It is even possible that it actually lived in Antarctica.
Placing Antarctosaurus into the titanosaur family has come into question based on some recent studies. A specimen nearly twice the size of the type specimen was originally assigned a separate species but is now considered a very large individual of the same species.
