Hadrosaurs
Hadrosaurs were a large and common group of dinosaurs that are often referred to as duck-bills. They were herbivorous, herd-dwelling animals that reached 50 feet (15 m) in length. Named for Hadrosaurus, these dinosaurs had a peculiar beak on the end of their snouts that was somewhat wide and flat. Their mouths were filled with hundreds of teeth arranged in dental batteries that were used to grind up tough plant fibers.
Hallucigenia
This was a small, strange creature that lived about 550 million years ago in the Paleozoic era. It is so unique that there is almost nothing in the modern world to which it can be compared. It was only one inch long and for some years there was confusion about which of its appendages were legs and which were spines (or some other type of projection). It was only after other creatures with soft legs were identified that scientists think they know which end was up. They still aren't able to determine, however, which was the front end and which was the back end of this little sea-dweller.
Herbivore
An herbivore is an animal that eats only plants. A modern example would be cows and a prehistoric example would be Apatosaurus.
Holotype
An individual specimen used to define a species. Also known as a type specimen.
Humerus
The large bone of the upper arm that connects the elbow to the shoulder (or front leg if referring to a quadrupedal dinosaur).
