Possibly the most recognized Jurassic dinosaur is Stegosaurus, the famous dinosaur with plates on its back and spikes on its tail. In addition to Stegosaurus, there were many other familiar dinosaurs such as the huge Brachiosaurus, with its towering neck, Allosaurus, the first of the really big predators, and the long-necked sauropods like Apatosaurus and Diplodocus. Pterosaurs also became a common site in the Jurassic skies. Many people mistakenly believe that the pterosaurs were a type of dinosaur, but in fact, they were flying reptiles and not related to dinosaurs at all.
