Rock 'n' roll is a musical form that was initially created by and for youth. So it shouldn't be all that surprising that this Australian trio achieved multi-platinum success at the age of 16. It did, however, stun quite a few jealous oldsters and please those in the band's own age group.

Perhaps what surprised so many people was the relatively easy time Silverchair has had in the often-rocky world of the music industry. The group (singer/guitarist Daniel Johns, bassist Chris Joannou, and drummer Ben Gillies) first started playing together at the age of 12 in their Australian hometown of Newcastle.
