Contemporary Christian singer Stacie Orrico signed to Forefront Records at age 14 after winning the grand prize in the vocalist competition at the Estes Park Christian Artist Seminar two years earlier. Her debut album for the label, 2000's Genuine, offered a wholesome alternative to teen stars like Christina and Britney, with urban-pop tunes (three written or co-written by Orrico) that lyrically explored such topics as peer pressure, anorexia, and, of course, Orrico's religious faith. The album was a left-field hit, landing at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and eventually going gold despite very little mainstream media exposure. Destiny's Child couldn't help but notice and invited Orrico to join them as the opening act on their 2001 U.S. tour....
