But Slim didn't want to just be a rapper. What he really wanted to do was run his own business, working behind the music scene as well as in the limelight. In 2000, he started his own record label, Boss Hogg Outlawz. This name came from Slim's nickname, Boss Hogg, which he got because he used to drive a 1975 Cadillac, just like the one Boss Hogg drove in the old TV show, "The Dukes of Hazzard."
Slim and his record company released three albums featuring other music artists, in addition to his own work. The first was "Boss Hogg Outlawz", featuring ESG. The second, "The Big Unit," featured Lil Keke. The third, "Boyz -N- Blue," featured Slim's crew, the Boss Hogg Outlawz. Besides running his own record label, Slim also owned two Houston record stores and some other real estate. At the time of this writing, he planned to open his own car dealership, too.
In 2005, Slim released "Already Platinum," his first album with a major record label that wasn't his own. When making this album, he got the help of several rap music talents. The first single, "I Ain't Heard of That," is just one of eight songs on the album produced by the popular rap duo The Neptunes. Jazze Pha produced the song "Incredible Feelin'," and fellow southern rappers Bun B and T.I. are featured on the song "3 Kings."
